3 Tips for Newlyweds Moving into Their First Home

Last updated 10 months ago

Are you getting ready for your special day? If so, you are likely also preparing for your first home with your new spouse! Buying a new home is a great way to mark the start of your life as a married couple. Enjoy the most pleasant move possible by following these simple newlywed home tips:

Sort Through Your Belongings
Whether you already live together or will experience living together for the first time after the wedding, now is a great time to sort through all of your belongings. You two may have separate collections of similar items that can be combined or discarded to save space in the new home. Working together to make lists and take inventory of what you have will allow you to create the best collection of possessions. This is also a great time to sort through your wedding gifts and prepare them for your new space.

Find Out What You Still Need
Sorting through all of your belongings will help you determine what items you still need to purchase before moving in to your new home. Discuss which belongings will go in which rooms and then keep track of the appliances, accessories, and other items you want to get to make your new home as comfortable and functional as possible.

Work Together to Create a Layout
Sit down with your spouse-to-be to figure out where to place each item in your new space. Using a separate piece of paper for each room, draw a specific item where you want to place it in each space. This gives you an opportunity to share thoughts and compromise, making it easier to get organized as quickly as possible after moving in.
